2008-2009 Activities
At the beginning of the year, Jeff was contacted by a Brown alumna, who had heard about the High School Success Workshop Series called IXL (I Excel). The series is designed to inspire students to step outside their everyday boundaries and set amazing goals for high school and their careers. The first session was organized between Jeff Gee, Brown University and Columbia Explorers Academy. The kick off presentation topic was Creating an Amazing Life, featuring Jeff Gee.
The kick off presentation starts out by focusing on the reasons students should care about their higher education. Columbia Explorers Academy students, 7th and 8th grades, listen to Jeff's advice and catch endless laughs from his light humor. Jeff uses many stories to inspire the students including brain surgeon Alfredo Quinones' story about turning the little he had into everything.
After the initial program was launched, Jeff went back to the school to have face-to-face discussions with the students. He also conducted a survey amongst the students to learn what kind of programs they were most interested in. Some of their top interests include: Speaking in Front of a Group, Anger Management, and Communication Skills.
Several other High School Success Workshop Series are being held Future workshops will cover such skills as "Making it happen," and "Being great with people even when they don't deserve it and you don't feel like it!" and other skills needed to achieve success.
This series of workshops is also a big hit with college and university students.
